Honeywell has expressed a need for a tool to be used by technicians in their production facility to confirm correct wiring of a magnetic coil early in the fabrication process to prevent errors and potential damage to the equipment that could result from incorrect wiring.

By applying basic concepts of electromagnetics, our team is working to design an effective and simplistic test unit for Honeywell. The unit employs a 9V battery to support portability and ease of use. The testing unit will provide simple output to indicate whether or not the coil has been correctly wound.

Our prototype design consists of an Arduino Uno microprocessor, two magnetic sensing chips and a breadboard, along with several other components. For testing purposes, we wound our own cores to simulate a magnetic field similar to that of the device used by Honeywell. By using this prototype, we are able to perform testing on our design prior to putting together the finished product.

After correct functionality was confirmed by our prototype, the components were migrated from the breadboard onto a prototype board and moved into the testing unit housing.

Our final design is functional and completely contained within the enclosure. The final design employs a printed circuit board, various circuit components, two magnetic sensors, and an LCD screen.
